WHOI’s Image of the Day (IOD) is consistently one of the most popular features on the Institution’s home page, receiving about 150,000 hits per year. We currently promote IOD through the WHOI homepage (internal and external), the trustees’ page, and an RSS feed, as well as through periodic mentions on Facebook and through other social media outlets. As a result, IOD maintains a prominent place both inside and outside the WHOI community. If you have a collection of images, the WHOI Image Source database is a great way to catalog them. If you would like to have a photo taken of a cool project you are doing here on campus to be used in Image of the Day, please contact Tom Kleindinst. If you would like to submit groups of photos, follow the instructions below to access the IOD ftp site, or contact Jayne Doucette (X2647; web-photo-submissions@whoi.edu). Group Photo Submission
Oceanus Magazine Oceanus explores the oceans in depth, highlighting the research and researchers at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in news, features, and interviews written by magazine staff, with full-color photographs and illustrations. Each issue covers a wide spectrum of oceanography, spanning coastal research, marine life, deep-ocean exploration, and the ocean's role in climate, as well as ocean technology and policy. Oceanus was first published in 1952 as a 16-page typewritten document to provide "a worthwhile reference to modern oceanographic exploration ... that is neither too technical nor too popular." That concise philosophy still remains, even though the mission of the magazine has evolved over the years. Today, the Internet offers more timely access to information, and our scope has broadened to convey the adventure of ocean exploration, the global and collaborative nature of ocean research, and the importance of understanding the key feature that makes our planet unique and habitable. » Go to Oceanus Magazine Brochures The Communications Office produces a wide variety of brochures ranging from An Introduction to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (pdf), Vessels & Vehicles of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (pdf) and Welcome to Woods Hole (pdf) to name a few. If you are interested in participating in an audio slideshow or podcast, please contact the Communications Office. Oral History Program This compilation of nearly 200 interviews captures the recollections and stories of the Institution’s scientists and staff from the 1930s to the present. Audio and videotape recordings as well as printed transcripts are available for loan through the Data Library & Archives.
