If you receive an email or a phone call from an individual and you don't have the time or information to respond to it, the Information Office can be of assistance. Please feel free to forward any emails or phone calls, or to direct individuals to the Information Office (508) 289-2252 for assistance. The Information Office will make every effort to answer the question, send information, suggest resources, or refer them to the proper person or organization. By Teachers and Students The Information Office can help teachers and students in a variety of ways, including organizing tours, providing a list of WHOI staff interested in speaking to students, assembing information for classroom visits, and providing information about upcoming Teacher Workshops. By the Media If you are contacted directly by a member of the media, here are some things to consider before you respond:
If not, please pass the individual's contact information to the Media Office at (508) 289-3340. We can find out more about the project they are working on, research their credentials and past work, or find someone else to fulfill the request. We can also help schedule an interview, locate a suitable interview space, and provide supporting visuals for the piece. If you do speak to the media, please remember to let the Media Office know that you’ve done the interview so they can follow up with help finding imagery or background information and get a copy of the article/program once it becomes available. More » By a Film Production Company All film production company requests must be referred to the Media Office before planning or filming can proceed. Media Relations staff will escort the film crew while they are on WHOI property and can provide the necessary licensing paperwork covering the use of WHOI-produced content in the project. All visuals—video, images, data, illustrations, etc.—must be properly licensed through the Media Office in order to protect copyright and intellectual property and to ensure that the work is properly identified and attributed. IMPORTANT: Please do not sign any personal release forms or materials release forms provided by film production companies without having someone from the Media Office review it first. Read more about WHOI's Intellectual property guidelines. By a Museum Kathy Patterson, the Ocean Science Exhibit Center manager, is WHOI's museum liaison. As museum liaison she works with museums interested in incorporating WHOI science into their exhibits and can help you identify many of the details that go into a good museum display or exhibit. Staff interested in submitting a proposal to create exhibits at the Ocean Science Exhibit Center should also contact Kathy to discuss content and available space, as well as possible placement at other venues. By Someone Interested in Making a Gift to WHOI All gifts to WHOI must be reviewed and processed by the Development Office. If someone contacts you about making a gift, please refer them to the Development Office at (508) 289-4895, or direct the individual to WHOI's online giving site at www.WHOI.edu/givenow.
