July 11 - July 20, 2012

Itinerary

Day 1 (7/11): Meet at Logan Airport, Terminal C, UNITED, at 10 AM.   Depart Boston 12 p.m., arrive Kona, HI at 8 p.m.  Make way to Kona Hostel.

Day 2 (7/12): Purchase food and coolers, logistics until about noon, afternoon - City of Refuge (Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park), and Captain Cook, Kealakekua Bay.  Cooking Group #1

Day 3 (7/13): Kona coffee plantation, Manua Kea summit, stop for xenolith search.  Cooking Group #2

Day 4 (7/14): South Point, then to Hilo side, turtle beach,  (free evening).

Day 5 (7/15): Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (HVO): the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum, day hiking out on the flows and cliff above flows.  Cooking group #3.

Day 6 (7/16): HVO day with Matt Patrick and Mike Poland.  Mauna Ulu Vent, etc.  Cooking group # 4. 

Day 7 (7/17): Hilo with tour of Pacific Tsunami Museum (2 p.m.), tour of UH, Hilo.  Cooking group # 5.

Day 8 (7/18): Active flows (free evening)

Day 9 (7/19):  Drive to Kona, depart Kona 9:21 p.m.
