Jan Sundberg received a BA/Master’s degree in biology and ecology
in 1987 and a PhD in zooecology in 1994 from the University of Uppsala,
Sweden. His doctoral dissertation, submitted to the Department of Animal
Ecology, was entitled “Sexual selection in the Yellowhammerthe
advantage of being yellow.” From 1994 to 2001, he taught in the
Department of Evolutionary Biology at Uppsala University and also conducted
basic and applied research, including on the subject of windpower. Since
2002 he has held an appointment in Uppsala University’s Department
of Engineering Sciences, where he is part of a new multidisciplinary group
working on new solutions in renewable energy, including windpower, wavepower,
and the utilization of underwater currents
