Bring the ocean to your inbox
A new pair of cameras on the hybrid-remotely operated vehicle (HROV) Nereus claims a distinguished pedigree: they were part of a recent gift by explorer and director James Cameron to WHOI. Cameron donated his submersible, DEEPSEA CHALLENGER to the institution in March, one year after his record-breaking dive in it to the deepest spot in the ocean. The cameras were a part of that gift and are currently on Nereus on a cruise led by WHOI geochemist Chris German to explore the world's deepest hydrothermal vents and broadcast video live on the internet.
