Robert G. Lowe

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death January 22, 2000 of retiree Robert G. Lowe of East Falmouth, MA, at Falmouth Hospital. He was 68.

Robert George Lowe was born April 4, 1931 in Somerville, MA, and raised in Allston. He attended Brighton High School and worked at Nickerson Hardware in Allston and General Hardware and Supply in Cambridge before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He served in Vietnam and the Philippines prior to his retirement from the Air Force in 1972. Bob joined the WHOI staff as a security guard working with Andy Wessling in November 1972. He transferred to the Ocean Engineering Department in 1977 to work in computer operations with Mel Rosenfeld and later Skip Little before retiring in 1993.

Surviving are a son, Gary R. Lowe, of Falmouth; a daughter, Robin D. (Lowe) Slate, of Vancouver, WA; his former wife, Barbara Bizzozero, of West Falmouth; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held January 26, 2000 with burial following at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
