Scheduled Weekly Fitness Activities at WHOIThanks to a few of our Fitness Challenge participants, we are offering the following weekly fitness activities to be held right here at WHOI. This is a great way to get out there during lunch and take a break from your busy work schedule, get some physical activity, and enjoy the comraderie of getting to know the other team members. All you need to do is mark your calendar and show up to any of these weekly scheduled activities: Wellness SeminarsDuring our Third Annual Fitness Challenge, we will offer 4 wellness-related seminars. You will receive 5 Bonus Points for each seminar you attend and there will be a door prize raffle at each seminar. For those who attend all 4 seminars, you will receive and Extra 5 Bonus Points and your name will be entered for a special raffle prize at the end.These are scheduled as 'lunch and learn' seminars, so please be sure to bring your lunch and sit back and enjoy the program topics. Seminar I June 22nd Held at Smith from 12 Noon to 1pm FITNESS & EXERCISE - This seminar will focus on fitness and exercise. It will inform people how to reduce unhealthy behaviors and health risks. It will educate participants on the basic aspects of fitness and will instruct them on how to find an exercise program that meets their needs. Seminar II July 13th Held at Smith from 12 Noon to 1pm DEALING WITH CHANGE - this seminar will focus on how to deal with the stress of change in the workplace. The rate of change is so rapid these days that people are experiencing tremendous difficulty and stress trying to cope. The speaker will discuss the 4 Phases of Change, Feelings and Issues Involved in Major Changes, and What you Can Do and What Your Company Can do. Seminar III July 27th Held at Carriage House from 12 Noon to 1pm FOOD & BEHAVIOR - Do some foods help you think? Can they help improve memory? This lecture will focus on the nutrients that are critical for brain functions. Food choices for snacks and meal times will be suggested in light of their effects on enhanced performance, feelings of depression and anxiety. Understand how food and nutrients influence the mind, mood, and behavior. Seminar IV August 10th Held at Carriage House from 12 Noon to 1pm GETTING THE MOST OF YOUR MEDICAL VISITS - What does it mean to be a proactive patient and a knoweldgeable partner with your healthcare provider? It starts with choosing doctors you trust, who take the time to answer your questions, and work closely with you on monitoring your risk factors and improving your health. This seminar is presented by a physician who is prepared to guide you in managing a complex medical system to derive maximum benefit from your interaction with your primary physican and the specialists you need.
