Onsite Accomodations
MBL Housing
Most accomodations will be at the MBL, in dormitory-style rooms in the Swope Center. We have reserved mostly double rooms, but a limited number of single rooms is available on a first-come/first-serve basis

Rooms are $44.50/night for double occupancy, $77/night for single occupancy.

Registration will be at Swope (#15 on the map to the right). Meals and most housing will be in Swope. The conference will be held in Lilly Auditorium (#6 on the map).

Early arrival at the MBL
If you require accommodations for either Saturday or Thursday night (in the MBL housing), these must be reserved and paid in advance by contacting Deborah Deering at MBL. Availability of these rooms is limited and an additional fee of $46.00/day for early arrival and/or late departure will be charged prior to arrival. This fee does not include meals.

Offsite housing in Woods Hole

Cape Cod and the Islands (Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket) are important tourist destinations. Many lovely bed and breakfasts, small inns, and medium-sized hotels are located in Woods Hole and Falmouth. October is considered "shoulder season" for housing here, and prices should reflect that accordingly.

See the Visitor Information Page for additional tourist information.

WHOI maintains a list of  hotels and bed and breakfasts in Woods Hole and Falmouth. The meeting organizers have not reserved room blocks at specific hotels, but rooms should be reasonably available if booked ahead.

Please contact the conference organizers if you have any special needs.

Public Transportation

Unfortunately, public transportation around Falmouth and Cape Cod is limited. Here are a list of various transportation options, including ferries.

Bus - There is one public bus line serving Woods Hole and Falmouth (see the Travel Information page for buses from Boston and New York). The SeaLine runs from Woods Hole via downtown Falmouth to Hyannis (see map), departing on the hour every hour from the Steamship Authority (depending on traffic).

Bicycle - There is an excellent bike path from Woods Hole to the Falmouth bus depot (west end of Main Street) and beyond. Bicycles can be rented in town (near the Falmouth bus depot). Other arrangements might be made.

Ferry - The ferry to Martha's Vineyard departs directly from Woods Hole. There is also a daily fast ferry to the city of New Bedford, on the west side of Buzzards Bay. Ferry parking shuttles run to various parking lots scattered around Falmouth, an economical (free!) way of getting a ride into Falmouth. Make sure you know which parking lot the shuttle is going to, however, as some lots are not near downtown.

Taxi - Falmouth has several taxi services, and there is usually a taxi waiting to meet the ferry from Marthas Vineyard. Falmouth Taxi (508-548-3100), Upper Cape Taxi (508-540-1290), and All Seasons Taxi (508-548-9990).

WHOI shuttle
- WHOI runs a shuttle service between Woods Hole and the WHOI Quissett Campus, about 1 mi (1.6 km) up Woods Hole Road (map). The shuttle driver will pick up and drop off anywhere along the route. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes.

Car rental - If you need to rent a car in Falmouth (as opposed to Logan or TF Green airports), there are several national chains: Enterprise, National, and , Alamo.
