In June 2007, the WHOI/MIT Joint Program organized a panel discussion to present different perspectives on career options for graduate students at postdocs.

"Writing a Better Proposal" Workshop

Typically, twice per year (winter and summer), Jim Price (Senior Scientist, Physical Oceanography Department and Associate Dean, Academic Programs Office) organizes a workshop for WHOI Postdocs and Assistant Scientists on writing an effective NSF proposal.  If he is offering the workshop, he will send an e-mail announcement.  Click here for a detailed syllabus.

Reception with Program Managers

In the summers of 2006 and 2007, and hopefully in future years, the Academic Programs Office has hosted an informal panel discussion/ reception to briefly describe their program, briefly explain how one applies for funding, mention any future new opportunities that might be coming down the road, say anything else that they want to say about their program and then answer any questions from the WHOI postdoctoral community.

Panel Discussion on Writing and Submitting Proposals at WHOI

In March 2006, the WHOI-PDA organized a panel discussion to addresss questions that WHOI postdocs have about the process and policies of writing and submitting grant proposals to get a better idea of what are the rules, how do you do it, who can help us, etc.
