Every winter, the Academic Programs Office (APO) organizes a breakfast reception that convenes postdoctoral researchers, their institutional sponsors, and representatives from the Directorate, Academic Programs, and other WHOI offices to discuss issues of potential importance to postdocs. A ‘State of the Institution’ address is usually given by the President or Director of Research at WHOI.
Each month a different department or facility of WHOI hosts a casual 'Coffee Hour' to give postdocs an overview of the ongoing activities at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Beside these more official events casual get-togethers
are organized on a frequent basis.
Join the Listserv for the WHOI postdoctoral community to be notified about these events.
Every summer, the WHOI-PDA and WHOI Academic Programs Office (APO) invite all of the postdocs (from WHOI, MBL, WHRC, USGS and NMFS) with their advisors/supervisors and families to a summer social. We provide all of the food and games, you just need to bring yourself and your family or a friend if you would like.
Postdoc Events Calendar
Every fall, the WHOI-PDA and Academic Programs Office (APO) host a one-day symposium for the postdoctoral community at WHOI. The goal of this seminar is to present to your fellow postdocs the project you are working on during your time at WHOI and hear about and discuss the work of other postdocs.
Even if you have just arrived at WHOI we encourage you to consider presenting the work you are planning to do (as a shorter presentation), or simply attend the seminar if you do not wish to present. Various collaborations have been established following earlier symposia.
Please note that this seminar is not intended as a venue for the presentation of detailed results; rather, it is intended as a forum for postdocs to discuss their work as it relates to broader topics in oceanography. To maintain a more informal atmosphere, scientific and technical staff are not invited - this is a postdoc-only symposium, although External Relations (Development) and Communications (Media Relations) staff from WHOI are occasionally present.
