Election Details
We have begun to receive nominations for the WHOI
Diversity Committee; more are needed.
Current members are asked to encourage people they know to nominate
themselves. Nominations will be accepted
through November. Voting will take place
in January.
Diversity Movie Night Working Group
The
next movie night will be in March. We
are attempting to identify movies that address the whole range of
“diversity”. To date we have addressed
race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and disability. We will aim to select a movie about
transgender issues for March. Also, a
new movie czar will be needed next year.
Other Issues
- A workshop on promoting
diversity in science and engineering (LEAD Workshop: http://www.engr.washington.edu/lead/)
will be held next year. It is
sponsored by the UW ADVANCE Program (http://www.engr.washington.edu/advance/).
- Plans
for the PEP Program, sponsored by the Woods Hold Diversity Advisory
Committee, are progressing for a program start in the Summer of 2009. More details will be out soon.
- We
discussed ways to provide information to PIs to help with both encouraging
diversity and meeting NSF Broader Impact criteria. This may include a “clearing house” page
on our Diversity Committee website, and/or a meeting for PIs.
