Summer Student/Minority Fellowship Committee
Charge
The Summer Student / Minority Fellowship Committee is responsible for evaluating applications for the Summer Student / Minority Fellowship program and recommending the candidates for the awards. A Tenured Scientific Staff member is appointed by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean as Chair of the Committee and acts as the Faculty Coordinator for the Summer Student Fellowship Program/Minority Fellowship Program. The Faculty Coordinator appoints the Summer Student / Minority Fellows in consultation with the members of the Committee. The Committee’s procedures are established by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean in consultation with the Chair of the Committee, the Associate Dean and Education Council.
Membership
The Committee consists of a representative from each of the Scientific Departments and from the Marine Policy Center. The members are appointed from the Scientific Staff or Senior Technical Staff by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean upon the recommendation of the Department Chair. In cases where a department may have an exceedingly large number of applicants, a second member may be appointed from the department. An ex officio member appointed from the USGS-Woods Hole represents the interests of USGS in support of these programs. Terms of appointment to the committee are normally for three years.

The Faculty Coordinator appoints the Summer Student / Minority Fellows in consultation with the members of the Committee.
