Field Robotics

Central to my research is validating robotic methods in the field and I've been fortunate to work with a variety of oceanographic systems - both in developing them and in using them for my research. I regularly go to sea to partipate in engineering and oceanographic research, often serving as the Expedition Leader responsible for leading sea-going operations for the robot.  Robotic platforms I've worked with include:

  • Sentry autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV)
  • Jason remotely operated vehicle (ROV)
  • Nereus hybrid remotely operated vehicle (HROV) 
  • Nereid Under-Ice ROV
  • Oceanserver Iver AUVs
  • Alvin Manned Submersible (technically not a robot but uses many robotic technologies)
  • ABE --- the Autonomous Benthic Explorer
