 Abstract

The Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (GBRWHA) off the north-eastern coast of Australia covers ~348,000km² and some 14° of latitude.  It is one of the largest and best known marine protected areas in the world, supporting a range of extractive and non-extractive uses and it is managed under complex multi-jurisdictional arrangements.  Marine reptiles are often encountered in the World Heritage Area and characteristics of their biology, behaviour and ecology provide some interesting challenges for conservation managers.  In this talk Mark will provide an overview of the management and conservation of marine turtles, estuarine crocodiles and sea snakes in the GBRWHA.
