Research Statement
Marjorie Parmenter began employment at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in May of 2001, and worked as a Research Assistant III in the Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering Department (AOPE). Her principal interests included supporting oceanographic research that involves underwater technological applications, and providing technical documentation and publications support to research scientists. She retired from WHOI in December of 2013.

Research Interests

Marine biology

  • Ecosystems
  • Marine organisms, including benthic Foraminifera, protists, squid, cetaceans, and marine mammals
Technology for oceanography

Fluency in PC applications (MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Adobe)
Experienced in research publications support:
  • topical publication searches
  • manuscript preparation (formatting text, figures, and references to a journal's specifications)
  • proofreading and editing documents and presentations
  • preparating electronic files for uploading to a publisher's website
Experienced in maintaining webpage content

Additional Information
Marjorie's earlier work experience included:
  • laboratory work, with techniques in histology, light and electron microscopy, tissue and cell culturing, cellular and molecular genetics
  • morphometry and image analysis
  • technical writing and scientific illustration
