The ROV Jason, shown here on the fantail of the R/V Revelle during an expedition to the Alleutian Islands, was used by scientists aboard the NOAA research vessel Ron Brown, to explore deep-sea coral habitats in the Gulf of Mexico. The scientists observed corals and associated communities of marine life that show evidence of recent damage. (Tom Bolmer, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
