McGillicuddy and He posing after the successful deployment of drifters
Dennis McGillicuddy and Ruoying He, scientists in the WHOI Department of Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering, have developed a computer model of the dynamics and dispersion of the harmful algae Alexandrium fundyense. They went to sea with 16 colleagues in May 2005--in the midst of New England's worst red tide in 30 years--to make measurements that allow their theoretical model to reflect the reality of what is happening at sea.
