How Carbon Cycles Through the Earth
Carbon moves naturally through the ground, ocean, and sky in a cycle over millions of years (large white arrows).
People have short-circuited the cycle, transferring carbon quickly from ground to air by burning fossil fuel.
Iron fertilization proposes to accelerate the transfer of carbon from air back to the ocean.
