Alan Chave is a Senior Scientist in WHOI’s Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department, where he he specializes in going to meetings and writing reports. When time allows, he builds “toys” to throw in the ocean (hoping they will come back) and has been quite successful at this over the years. His major research interest is the design, construction, installation, and servicing of ocean observatories. His group provided the technical lead for the Hawaii-2 Observatory, and he acts as project scientist for the ambitious NEPTUNE project planned for installation in 2008-2009. Alan lives in Falmouth with his wife, four-year-old daughter and Portuguese water dog.
