In Memoriam: Olga A. Fennelly
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Olga A. Fennelly, 94, of Falmouth, Mass. She passed away on Friday, April 10, at JML Care Center in Falmouth where she had resided for several years.
She was the beloved wife of the late Cyril L. Fennelly (USCG) who died in 2012.
Olga was born in Boston to Gregory and Stanislava (Dobrzyniewski) Blumberh. She attended the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston and worked as a secretary for the Parks Department for the City of Boston.
Olga came to work at WHOI in August of 1970, as a part-time secretary in the Chemistry Department. In 1974, she was promoted to Secretary II and to Secretary III in 1980. She retired from the Institution in July 1983.
A member of the Falmouth Woman’s Club and Falmouth Volunteers in Public Schools, Olga will be lovingly remembered as a woman of kindness, strength and generosity of spirit.
She is survived by her son Thomas C. Fennelly of New York, NY; her 4 grandchildren: Kristin Hinson of E. Falmouth; Crystal Hinson of New Bedford, Mark Bingham of Framingham, and Tara Degatano of Douglas; her son-in law Kurt Hinson of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews. Olga was predeceased by her daughters Lynette R. Hinson and Patricia A. Fennelly, her sisters Helen Sorensen, Ann Babcock and Sophie McDonough and her brother Walter Blumberh.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday April 18th at St. Patrick’s Church, 511 Main St, Falmouth, Mass.
