The Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System
University of Maine and Maine State Planning Office

Based at the University of Maine, GoMOOS is a Maine state government-academic research institution collaboration designed to produce and transmit data in near-real time from continuing observations of the Gulf of Maine. GoMOOS results can enhance and protect the livelihoods and well-being of those who use this productive coastal water body and depend on its ecosystem. It is a not-for-profit corporation that will depend on a distributed network of scientists and commercial enterprises to accomplish its mission. Established in late 1999, GoMOOS is in the early implementation stage and is scheduled to assemble and deploy monitoring buoys in the spring of 2001.
