The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of former employee Harold W. Johnson on December 28, at Harborside Healthcare in Falmouth, MA, after a long illness.  He was 92.

Harold was the husband of Jacqueline Dorris (Willett) Johnson and was previously married to Ruth S. Johnson, who died in 1983. He was the son of the late Frederik and Magda (Nilsen) Johnson, both from Norway.

Harold began working at WHOI in 1961 as an Electronics Stock Clerk. In 1967 he was promoted to Senior Stockroom Clerk. In 1975 he became Stockroom Manager.  He retired in 1978. Prior to his employment at WHOI, he was with the Air Force from which he retired after 21 years.

Harold was a past commander of the Buzzards Bay Power Squadron and took pride in his 35-foot motor sailor, the "Seabird." In later years, he traveled North America in several motor homes.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Diane Witter of Florida and Gail Silva of West Falmouth; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
