The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death April 18, 2006 of Alice P. Fernandes of East Falmouth at Royal Nursing Center in Falmouth, MA.  She was 95.

Born July 19, 1910 and raised in East Falmouth, Alice (Peters) Fernandes worked as a housekeeper at the Institution for 13 years.  She joined the WHOI staff in May 1963 working in Services with Harriet Rossby and retired in July 1975.

She was the wife of the later Hymie Tavares and Manuel Fernandes. Survivors include a son, Eugene Tavares, of Tucson, AZ; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass was celebrated April 22 at St. Anthony’s Church on Route 28 in East Falmouth. Burial followed at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.
