![]() | Where are WHOI's ships right now?The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's three active research vessels -- R/V Atlantis, R/V Knorr, and R/V Oceanus -- may be working at any time in nearly any location in the world ocean. You can monitor the progress of the newest ship, R/V Atlantis, by a cruise map and cruise synopses. R/V Atlantis made its maiden voyage from the shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and arrived in Woods Hole on April 11, 1997. In April and May 1997, it was outfitted with WHOI's Deep Submergence Vehicle Alvin and a variety of oceanographic instruments and vehicles. Atlantis embarked on its first science cruise in June 1997.
