Clio sampler

Super Sampler

WHOI engineer Daniel Gomez-Ibanez prepares WHOI's newest autonomous underwater vehicle, Clio, for its recent sea trials from research vessel Neil Armstrong. The white cylinder Gomez-Ibanez is working on is called a SUPR Sampler and was designed and built by former WHOI engineer Chip Breier, now a professor at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley. It contains a series of filters that automatically collect samples of particles as Clio moves vertically through the water. Scientists analyze the samples to study the biogeochemical health of the ocean. (Photo by Ken Kostel, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
