Satellite Copiers
The multi-user copier/printers (satellite machines) scattered around the Institution hallways are purchased through the duplicating account and are operated on a cost recovery basis. We purchase and depreciate these machines, provide maintenance contracts that guarantee service as required, and maintain an inventory of supplies, including toners, developers, staples, and paper. We also collect the usage on the machines and provide a project-by-project breakdown billed monthly through accounting.

Key Operators
In most locations we’ve enlisted someone who has a vested interest in maintaining the machine to act as a Key Operator. Their function is to order paper, place service calls and pass on complaints to the Reproduction Supervisor. If you experience a problem with one of our machines, please notify the Key Operator. We don’t compensate them, so be nice!

Project Codes
The Institution issues 4 digit “telephone codes” to projects for long distance calls. These codes are also used for copying or printing charges. Simply punch in the appropriate code on the machines or the Danyl boxes attached to the machines and your copying costs will be charged to your project or cost center in the duplicating line. Not all codes are enabled on all machines, so check with the key operator.

Locations
Since the Institution is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we place convenience copiers wherever we can justify the cost through usage estimates or actual usage.

Paper and Supplies
Paper for our machines is provided and is not intended for use in other machines as the cost is covered in the per copy charge. Key operators for each of our satellite machines monitor the supply and order as needed. Different paper (weight or color) can be ordered from “Repro.”
