Senior Technical Staff Awards

Criteria:
Each award is to be given to a Senior Technical Staff member* of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution who has distinguished himself or herself through extraordinary accomplishments in engineering, instrument development, information systems, or oceanography, and who has demonstrated a commitment to mentorship and partnership with junior technical staff members. The dominant criterion will be the record of excellence.

Process:
Nominations from individual Scientific and Technical Staff members of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution should be submitted directly to the Director of Research. The nomination package should include:

• one nominating memo, no longer than 2 pages;
• no more than 2 supporting memos (from institution personnel only); and
• a copy of the nominee's most recent short CV (2-page maximum).

Working with the Department Chairs, the Director of Research will make the final recommendation, subject to the approval of the President & Director and the Board of Trustees. The award(s) will be effective January 1 of the following year.

Award:
The award is for $60,000 and is intended primarily for salary support. The funds can be used at any time during the three-year period following the award. Exceptions to this provision must be approved, in writing, by the Director of Research.
