Mary Sears Visitor Program
Criteria:
The
Mary Sears Visitor Program was established by
a bequest from Mary Sears. It was her intention to
provide an exchange of "information about oceanography
to nations where it is not otherwise available".
Scientists
and technicians of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
are eligible to receive a Mary Sears Visitor
Program award. Awards will provide funds for travel,
living expenses, laboratory space and equipment use
for scientists, technicians and librarians visiting
WHOI. Preference will be given to visiting fellows
from
less affluent countries. The fellows should participate
in scientific discussions and activities with WHOI
scientists,
technicians, students, and postdocs and should present
to the WHOI community their particular areas of expertise.
The Mary Sears Visitor Program will also
provide
funds for WHOI staff to travel to less affluent nations
to collaborate with their counterparts at oceanographic
institutions.
Process:
There
will be a Proposal Review once each calendar year
for
the Mary Sears Visitor Program. The deadline
for submission is March 1, annually.
Each
proposal should be less than one page and include a
discussion of all the pertinent points: who, what, where,
when, and how will the award will be used. (Proposal
number, budget, and "Green Sheet" are not
required.) The proposal should be submitted to
the Director of Research who, in consultation with the
Department Chairs and Director of Marine Policy, will
make the final award decisions.
Award:
Each
award will be limited to $5,000. There should be a minimum
of five (5) awards each year. All funds must be spent
within 12 months of the award.
The
deadline for nominations is
March
1,
annually.
