Science Activities

  • CTDs.  "Core" CTDs will need the ship to adjust heading to prevent shadows on the CTD, if possible.  Once CTD is deep enough, ship can turn, HOWEVER, prefer to also keep deck PAR sensor out of shadow as well.  Need to put deck PAR on stbd side of ship so that shadows match the CTD.
    • Marshall has borrowed an ISIS Nitrate sensor for the CTD.  Has external battery, need to have an analog channel available.  Marshall will check on available channels on CTD and supply cable.  Presume Science will take care of the battery, but need to confirm.
  • sediment traps.  Simple net hanging at about 150m, floats and hi-flyer on top.  Has irridium, but expect to keep it in "sight" on radar.
  • net tows.  These are hand deployed phytoplankton nets.  No other net tows.
  • McLane pumps  CANCELED. No McLane pumps as per precruise meeting.
  • on-deck incubations
  • Air sampling forward.  Two sample tubes, one at rail, one about 10' up mast.  Filters will be changed about every four hours.  Still working on best location of sampling gear.  Might need 'bridge" for cables/tubes from 01 deck to mast.
