WHIT:Overview of July 27 Linux-Off Update
With, CIS, 7/27/2004

Suggestions, volunteers, and comments to: Angela York

This WHIT session was an overview of current Linux issues, such as CIS recommendations, supported hardware and applications and various Linux flavors. Discussed were: Which Linux flavor(s) CIS recommended; Concerns with support and licensing; Hardware supported for specific Linux OS'. Below is a list of URL's with information on 'best practice', Supported hardware for RedHat, and RedHat Enterprise Licensing.

Note from CIS:
The Dell Latitude D600 is supposed to work well with Redhat Enterprise 3. I haven't worked on one yet, but it's supposed to work. If you get the oppotunity to influence someone's decision about Redhat linux and laptops, I think steering them in this direction would save them some money. As we all know, generally we buy first, then ask questions about why the laptop's features don't work correctly later. I also don't recommend Emperor Linux laptops. If it has to be rebuilt, it's a real pain. There is no doubt their stuff works out of the gate, you just can't change anything without other things breaking.
