Troubleshooting - New to wired WHOInet

Make certain that you've followed these steps.

1. Make sure that the device has DHCP enabled.
• Check that DHCP is available on your subnet.
• How to switch to DHCP
• Call the Helpdesk x-2439 if you need help checking on DHCP
2. Register your machine's Ethernet address (MAC address) using Netreg
• Note: you can perform the registration from the unregistered machine
3. Wait 15 minutes before the registration is "live" (after 10, you could reboot)
4. Using a browser, connect to the public WHOI web site
• If you can see the WHOI web site, try the internal web site
• If you cannot get to either of the above web sites, continue with next numbered step.
• If you can get to both sites, you have network connectivity on WHOInet. If you think you still have a problem, perhaps the server or service that you are attempting to reach is experiencing difficulties. Additional tips.
5. View IP settings and see what type of address your machine has been given.
6. Depending on what type of address it has been given, you can better determine where the problem lies
