Workshop ‘2012 is conducted with support from the Ocean Engineering and
Marine Systems Group of the Office of Naval Research, and by the Marine Technology
Society, Washington, DC.
We are preparing site visits tour of two facilities in nearby Sidney, BC. The planned visits are to the Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Axys Technologies.
The Fisheries Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS) is one of Canada's largest marine institutes. IOS is an important link in Fisheries and Oceans, Canada's nationwide chain of nine major scientific facilities. The modern site has 300,000 sqft of research and office space. We will be touring buoy system related activities at the site.
AXYS Technologies Inc. is a 35 year old company which has significant buoy system and buoy mooring activities. It monitors and services the Canadian Weather Buoy systems in cooperation with the U.S. National Data Buoy Center and works with other buoy developments world-wide. We greatly appreciate that AXYS Technologies Inc. in its role as the 2012 ONR/MTS Buoy Workshop host, acting as "local indispensible facilitator".
