Polar bear on the starboard side!
I was just entering the crew's mess for a mid-afternoon snack when I heard over the ship's intercom system that there was a BIG polar bear on the starboard side. Just like everybody else on the ship, I rushed to my cabin to grab my jacket and camera, and headed outside. The bear was quite far when I got there - he or she had been much closer when they first saw it from the bridge - but it was still very impressive. I saw a few bears when I was in the Arctic two years ago, but you can't help but to marvel at these animals. We have also seen a few seals, but I haven't seen any bird since we left Kugluktuk.

Polar bear near 72°N, a few hundred miles from Banks Island.
What is this big red thing? Christopher Corkum and Ian Wrohan trying to get a good picture.
