Faces of the Louis IV
Today we successfully recovered another WHOI mooring, and are heading west.
The work is getting to be fast and furious for all the science groups aboard
as the Louis makes good time through the ice. But without the glorious
support of all the officers and crewmembers onboard, we would be able to
accomplish nothing. Here are more Faces of the Louis.

| Ice Observer Scott Payment provides expertise on interpreting the
satellite ice images and meteorological data that is received onboard, and
on identifying different ice conditions and ice types during reconnaissance
flights. |
From the Engine Control Room, Third Engineer Gerald McDonald
confers with the bridge.
|
Storekeeper Graham Weldon keeps track of the multitude of parts
and supplies in the Louis storeroom.
|

 |
 |
| During a mooring operation, Seaman Ralph Kaiser keeps tension on
the wire to the winch. |
I wonder what would happen if Engine Room Mechanic Bryant Culhane
really pushed that button? |
In the galley, Cook Thomas Mcmahon prepares for the lunchtime
rush. |
 |
 |
 |
| Electrical Officer Norm Robinson checks the circuits to keep the
Louis running smoothly. |
Besides his regular duties, Electrician Joe Lucas also staffs the
ship's canteen which provides hats, shirts, candy, toiletries, and other
assorted items. |
The man at the helm is Leading Seaman Steve Archibald. |
