This manual provides information and general guidelines on the criteria for appointment and promotion at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and on the procedures by which such decisions are generally made. It is intended for the information of current and prospective staff members, by individuals from whom we seek references, and those organizations and individuals who are interested in the nature and qualification of research personnel at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The manual is not intended to be a contract or to form any part of a contract with any employee. The policies and procedures contained herein are subject to periodic review and revision.
