Senior Scientist Chair Awards
Nominations solicited by October
3, 2008.
Criteria:
Each award is to be given to a Senior Scientist who has distinguished himself or herself through extraordinary accomplishments in marine scientific research and education. The dominant criterion will be the record of scientific excellence.
Process:
Nominations
for individual Scientific Staff members of the Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institution should be submitted
directly to the Director
of Research. The nomination package should include:
- one nominating memo from another member of the scientific staff, no longer than 2 pages;
- no more than 2 supporting memos (from Institution personnel only); and
- a copy of the nominee's most recent short CV, with a list of 5 recent publications.
Working
with the Department Chairs, the Director of Research will make the final
recommendation,
subject to the approval
of the President and Director
and the Board of Trustees.
The awards
will be
effective
January 1 of the following
year.
Award:
Each
award will be funded through the income from the
respective
Chair endowment. Calculation of the income distribution
will be consistent with the other endowment funds.
Chairs
will be held by the recipients for five (5) years.
Funds awarded must be spent within four (4) years
after the conclusion of the award. Exceptions to this
provision must be approved, in writing, by the Executive
Vice President & Director of Research. Funds awarded
are intended to be used in support of furthering the
scientific research and/or higher education activities
of the awardee.
