Planning Sustainable Transport
A resource for learning about alternative transportation and commuting methods
Everybody needs to get around. Each day millions of journeys are made for work, for shopping, for school and for hundreds of other purposes. How we choose to make these journeys affects our environment, our lives and our future.
An effort is being made to raise awareness of the nature and extent of the traffic growth problem here in Woods Hole and encourage changes in travel habits. By encouraging people to use sustainable modes of travel, such as walking, cycling and public transportation, we hope to reduce the problems caused by our increasing dependence upon the private car and help improve WHOI’s environment and that of our community.
Our primary focus is to help develop Transportation Plans and to promote sustainable transport at the Institution. Click on one of the opposite links to go to the section most relevant for you.
Whenever possible, we encourage you to walk, bike, carpool or use mass transit. Carbon dioxide reduction (for every gallon of gasoline you save): 20 pounds.
