Chemical Separation of Rhenium
and Osmium (PGEs): Materials and Methods
B. Peucker-Ehrenbrink (12/14/1997) This documentation is based
on the developments by Luck (1982), Ravizza (1990), Esser (1991), Reisberg et
al. (1991), Falkner (1992), Pegram et al. (1992), Ravizza and Pyle (1997), and
Birck et al. (1997). Osmium isotope ratio determination by negative thermal ionization
mass spectrometry, developed over the last decade by Heumann's group at the University
of Regensburg Department of Inorganic Chemistry, is described by The analytical procedure outlined
below is the standard technique used at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
(WHOI). Osmium isotope measurements are made on NIMA-B as described by Hauri (1992)
and Hauri and Hart (1993).
