Summary: |
| Reporting to the Vice President of Finance & Administration/CFO, the Director of Information Systems for the finance and administrative
departments, will be a contributing member of a team of IT professionals
responsible for the installation, configuration, enhancement, and
maintenance of computer systems and networks deployed in administrative
departments. This position is expected to develop, implement, and
maintain procedures, policies, and standards to continuously improve
departmental and institutional IT efficiency. Provide leadership
to the WHOI community in the development and use of administrative
information systems, works closely with department heads and/or
designated staff to identify and prioritize information systems
requirements, communicate institutional requirements to vendors
and outside organizations, and is the primary communicator of project
status, risks, issues, and expectations. Approximately 50% of time
spent in management/supervisory role; 50% analyzing business issues
and developing solutions in support of Bi-Tech modules. |
| Major
Duties: |
- Supervise
activities of MIS staff.
- Identify
critical business issues and develop workable solutions for
customers as well as MIS associates. These solutions may include
enhancements to existing core applications, new software packages,
and/or customer programs.
- Define
MIS standards and policies in compliance with external auditors.
- Identify,
recommend, and manage deployment of "best of breed"
hardware and software upgrades and purchases for Finance and
Administration.
- Prepare
and manage the Management Information Systems operating and
capital budgets.
- In conjunction
with users, prepare, test, and maintain a disaster recovery
plan for administrative systems.
- In conjunction
with users, develop and maintain documentation, procedures,
security, and training of staff members and end users of administrative
systems.
- Maintain
professional expertise in administrative computing systems and
technology.

| Desired
Education/Experience for Hiring: |
| Minimum
of Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and/or Computer
Science and several years of progressively responsible experience
(or equivalent combination of education/experience) including
experience with: system installation, configuration, administration,
and integration; application and multimedia development and
administration; and overall project management. Direct personnel
and functional management experience required. Must possess
strong mentoring skills and have demonstrated conflict management
skills. Must be a goal-oriented, highly motivated self-starter
with a strong orientation to customer service. Experience supporting
financial and administrative systems required. Experience with
the relational databases and client/server development (Informix
and SQL preferred), project management and application development
methodologies. Demonstrated effective vendor management and
experience with information technology providers desired. Experience
managing the development of strategic web applications, internet
and intranet. |
