Summary: |
Reporting to the Director of the National Deep Submergence Operations as part of the Marine Operations Department, the ALVIN Manager provides overall leadership for the employees, scheduling, budgeting, staffing and future growth of the Group. This position works closely with outside agencies and other Marine Operations management. This is a Woods Hole, land based position. |

Duties: |
- In association with the Manager of Deep Submergence Engineering, acts as initial point of contact with Navy Certifying agencies in all aspects of DSV ALVIN Certification.
- In association with the Director of Deep Submergence Operations, assists in preparation and submission of annual ALVIN budget.
- Oversees and administers the annual AVLIN operations budget.
- In association with the Marine Operations Coordinator assists in preparation of DSV ALVIN at sea scheduling.
- Reviews and approves all at sea time and scheduled vacation and shore leave in accordance with all applicable WHOI practices in association with the ALVIN Expedition Leader.
- Initiates and conducts initial personnel recruitment and interviews in association with the lead ALVIN Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
- Provides cruise planning support, attends cruise planning meetings and ensures distribution of all critical cruise planning information to the ALVIN Expedition Leader and support crew.
- Provides training assistances and support to the ALVIN Expedition Leader in the form of arranging practice and formal Engineering review boards at either Woods Hole or aboard R/V Atlantis and arranges for final Naval review with SubDevGrp 1 San Diego.
- Acts as primary point of contact for InSurv certification reviews.
- Acts as one of the primary points of contact in cases of at sea emergencies - SubMiss/SubSunk.
- In association with the Deep Submergence Engineering Manager and ALVIN Expedition Leader, is responsible for DSV ALVIN material readiness and certification.
- Provides technical and certification information support to the RHOV Manager.
- Attends RHOV planning and design meetings as required to provide operational input and interface.
- May act as Relief Expedition Leader as required.
- May travel to US States, Territories or overseas as needed.
- Performs such other duties, as the supervisor may deem necessary.

Education/Experience for Hiring: |
Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in science or engineering, or equivalent experience, and a minimum of 10 years experience in the operation of deep submergence vehicles. Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills, ability to develop and manage schedules and budgets, and personnel management. |
