Part D Creditable Coverage Notice
Each year, employers who offer group medical plans with prescription drug coverage must provide a Part D Creditable Coverage Notice. The requirement is to provide a written disclosure notice to all covered Medicare eligible individuals who are enrolled in WHOI's group medical coverage (excludes Medex plan). Covered Medicare eligible individuals include actively working individuals and their Medicare eligible dependents, COBRA Medicare eligible individuals and their Medicare eligible dependents, individuals eligible for Medicare on the basis of disability, and any Medicare eligible retirees and their Medicare eligible dependents.
In 2011, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act changed the open enrollment period for Medicare Part D from November 15 through December 31 to October 15 through December 7. Due to this change, employers must now distribute their Creditable Coverage Notice prior to October 15 each year.
