Job Summary
Reporting to the Benefits Manager, provides benefit-related services for assigned Institution departments by administering, processing and maintaining the Institution's benefits programs.

Major Duties
  • Advises on benefits eligibility, plan provisions and options, including continuation of benefits and new employee premiums.

  • Conducts new employee orientation.

  • Assists in the resolution of problems in health or life insurance claims.

  • Assists and monitors disability, P&I and workers compensation claims.

  • Prepares and reconciles premium billing to various benefits vendors.

  • Develops, updates or presents communications, such as announcements, newsletter articles, meeting materials, administrative procedures, forms, reports or benefits statements.

  • Identifies opportunities, defines problems and recommends viable solutions with respect to employee benefits.

  • Maintains databases for tracking benefit costs. Assists manager in the preparation and reconciliation of the budget for all employee benefits programs.

  • Prepares and submits timely annual and ad hoc reports to government agencies.

  • Interfaces with internal and external sources for developing and maintaining statistical data. Prepares, submits and evaluates survey data. Evaluates and compares existing or proposed benefits with those of competitors/comparators.

  • Provides assistance to the Benefits Manager, as requested, utilizing a broad knowledge of Institution human resources policies, practices and procedures and thorough knowledge of the employee benefits.

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of government legislation and socioeconomic trends related to employee benefits. Informs supervisor of developments and trends that presently or potentially impact areas of responsibility.

  • Serves as support and backup to other Human Resources Office positions as necessary.
  • Maintains a strong working relationship with HRIS staff to coordinate information management.

  • Performs such other duties, as the supervisor may deem necessary.


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
College degree preferred, with at least 2-4 years experience, or equivalent work experience. Must have demonstrated experience in human resources with a solid foundation in employee benefits. Proven ability to demonstrate good analytical, interpersonal, written, verbal and organizational skills; exercise discretion and sound judgment. Must be able to take initiative. Computer competency required including electronic spreadsheets, relational databases, and word processing.
