Job Summary
Supervises and organizes all Mechanical Shop activities.

Major Duties
  • Supervises and organizes all shop activities including mechanics, welding, plumbing, air conditioning, refrigeration and plastics.
  • Supervises ship maintenance, repair, and modification.
  • Designs for specified needs required by science and marine personnel.
  • Works with mechanic's hand and power tools, lathe, drill, press, power saws, hydraulic press, hydraulic shear, welding equipment and tools, sheet metal tools, heavy equipment (forklifts, crane cars, and overhead cranes), ships' machinery (cranes, engines, pumps, and generators), and small boats.
  •  
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may deem necessary.


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
High school or vocational school, plus 2 years of courses in mechanical trades; 15 years experience in marine mechanics or R&D mechanical field, including 5 or more years in supervisory role.
