Job Summary Reporting to the
Director of Foundation Relations will assist with proposal writing,
foundation research, solicitation planning and scheduling, cultivation
and stewardship activities, proposal submission (monitoring guidelines,
reporting requirements, deadlines, budget requirements).
Major Duties
- Identifies and researches prospective private (non-governmental) foundations for institution-wide support.
- Assists
with cultivation of foundation program officers and implementation of
solicitation strategies. Provides information on prospective
foundations to support solicitation activities of President and
Director, Vice President for External Relations, Director of Foundation
Relations, Executive Vice President and Director of Research, Vice
President for Academic Programs, and scientific staff.
- Drafts
correspondence for signature by the President and Director, Vice
President for External Relations, and Director of Foundation Relations.
- Tracks
institution-wide foundation contacts of scientists in order to maintain
a coordinated approach and avoid conflicting solicitations as well as
monitor timely reporting on foundation grants by Institution personnel
to assure compliance with foundation guidelines.
- Provides
stewardship (with input from the Director of Foundation Relations and
Development Office for Stewardship) to foundation trustees, donors and
founders through reports, events, visits and other contacts as
appropriate.
- Drafts
proposals with input from scientific staff, the Director of Foundation
Relations, and the Vice President for External Relations.
- Works
with Department Administrators to facilitate proposal submission and
disseminates background information on foundations to appropriate
scientific staff.
- Maintains
computer-based tracking system for foundation-related contacts
including proposals, proposal deadlines, reporting needs, action items.
Tracks foundation contacts by Members of the Corporation and Board of
Trustees.
- Performs other duties as the Supervisor may, from time to time, deem necessary.
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring College degree and
2 to 3 years of experience in foundation development, related systems,
research, general development or academic administration. Highly
developed organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively and
accurately in writing, on the phone and in person required. Familiarity
with computer tracking systems required along with a demonstrated
ability to work under pressure of multiple deadlines. Understanding of
the process for research funding strongly desired and helpful. Ability
to be a team player essential.
