Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Budgets and Financial Analysis and working independently, performs diversified accounting duties in support of the Institution's general ledger and work papers through financial statements and daily functions. Monitors Institution expenditures for adherence to both government and non-government internal rules and regulations. May be responsible for budget/fiscal administration and reporting on all grants, contracts, and internal appropriations for research programs.

Major Duties
  • Maintains general ledger, prepares bank statement reconciliations, monthly journal entries generated within the Controller's Office and from various departments within the organization;

  • Responsible for preparing and assembling work papers, schedules, and accounting summaries on a monthly and/or quarterly basis;

  • Assists in preparing monthly financial statements and related monthly information;

  • Responsible for government and non-government agency reporting, consisting of quarterly, fiscal year and final year reports;

  • Maintains retirement plan ledger and prepares year end work papers;

  • Monitors day to day activities on cost center, general accounting help desk (cost center troubleshooter);

  • Member of the Self Governance Team;

  • Participates in year-end audit;

  • Responsible for maintaining policies and procedures for area of specialty;

  • Performs all other duties as the supervisor may, from time to time, deem necessary.


Job Specifications (Knowledge, skills and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job)
Bachelors degree in accounting along with 3 years of related experience preferred or Associates degree in related field with 5-7 years of directly related experience. Experience in not-for-profit accounting, job cost accounting, grant accounting, or related work. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge in accounting terminology and technique as well as interpretation and experience in procedures and principles employed in applicable areas. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with both internal and external contacts. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is critical.
