Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Marine Facilities and Operations, provides leadership in information technology at the Institution and is responsible for delivering information technology services in support of the network and communication infrastructure, central services, desktop services and application programming. The position receives advice from the Advisory Committee on Computing and other appropriate advisory mechanisms on matters related to scientific research support and administrative computing.

Major Duties
  • Promotes the efficient use of computing resources throughout the Institution.

  • Develops appropriate operating strategies to support research and administrative computing, including personal computers and work stations.

  • Ensures effective use and development of network technologies such as integrating high speed internet access with telecommunications, information servers, and distributed computing environments.

  • Maintains a client services group responsible for information systems contracts and other billable services to the Falmouth scientific community.

  • Works in close contact with the Library and Graphic Services to foster collaborative development of information technology.

  • Works closely with the Advisory Committee on Computing and other units to maintain effective communications within the Institution.

  • Maintains efficient and cost effective electronic office services.

  • Performs other duties as required.


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring
Advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in computing and information services. Experience in a non-profit research and education environment is essential. In-depth experience with distributed computing environments, including personal computers and scientific workstations is critical. Demonstrated experience and skills in one or more of the following areas: telecommunications, local and wide are network technology, relational database technology, fourth generation languages and object programming. Strong management skills (oral and written communication, time management, conflict resolution, task prioritization and delegation, motivation) are essential. A track record of at least five years of demonstrably successful leadership in information services is strongly desired.
