Job Summary Reporting
to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, is responsible
for the Shore operations of the Institution and for the patenting,
licensing, trade marking and copyrighting of intellectual property
developed at WHOI.
- Formulates
future plans and provides strategic advice to WHOI's top management
for future expansions of shore-based physical facilities and operations.
- Interacts
with WHOI's Executive Committee or other Trustee committees for
specific interests of the committee.
- Convenes
WHOI planning committees to determine future land facilities required
for Institution operations.
- Provides
WHOI's top management with advice for selection of project architects,
engineers, planners, and construction managers for large construction
projects.
- Responsible
for all major capital projects from concept through construction,
including utilities.
- Oversees
significant renovation projects.
- Provides
systems engineering leadership for the Institution.
- Responsible
for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Directs
efforts of architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants
engaged in Institution facilities projects.
- Develops
and communicates policies pertaining to construction, operations,
and maintenance of the physical plant.
- Negotiates
and executes leases with various interests utilizing Institution
property.
- Represents
the Institution at various Town hearings and meetings pertaining
to Institution facilities.
- Coordinates
activities with other departments to accomplish Institution goals
and objectives.
- Manages
the patenting, licensing, trade marking and copyrighting of intellectual
property.
- Serves as
an educational resource on intellectual property and licensing
matters for the WHOI community.
Desired Education/Experience for Hiring Degree
in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or equivalent, plus
10 to 15 years experience with a minimum of 10 years in a management
role. Master's degree in business a plus.
