Job Summary:

Reporting to the President and Director develop long-range strategies, plan the Institution budget and establish and maintain communication with Federal agencies and other institutions.  Meets regularly with President and Director and other Vice Presidents, Department Chairs and Administrators, and members of the Scientific Staff to discuss and act on Institution business.



Major Duties:
  • Main liaison between the research departments and the rest of the administration.

 

  • Works to improve research opportunities, funding, working conditions at the Institution.

 

  • Oversight of hiring and promotions on the Scientific and Technical Staffs

 

  • Allocates, matches, startup and discretional funds.

 

  • Distribution of space and facilities

 

  • Administration of bridge support and policies relating to these areas.

 

  • Oversee performance  and merit considerations for Scientific and Technical Staff


Desired Education/Experience for Hiring:

Ph.D. in physical or life science discipline related to oceanography.  Significant, demonstrably successful experience, accomplishment and impact in ocean science research to attain the rank comparable Senior Scientist.  Proven skills in leadership, management and interpersonal communications.
