Dependent Life Insurance

You may purchase Spouse Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance coverage for your eligible legal spouse (or domestic partner) and/or Child Life Insurance for eligible dependent children.  Spouse Life insurance is deducted out of each pay period on an after-tax basis and is subject to change with changes in your spouses age.  Child Life insurance is deducted out of each pay period on an after-tax basis.  

For dependent child(ren) you may cover each child for $5,000 or $10,000 up to age 26. 

Spouse Life & AD&D insurance is available in increments of $10,000, up to a maximum of $250,000.  If electing Spouse Life insurance for the first time during your 'initial eligibility' and the amount exceeds $30,000, you must complete the "Evidence of Insurability" process. 

In addition, if you elect coverage or increase coverage outside your initial eligibility period, you must complete "Evidence of Insurability" regardless of the amount of coverage.  Eligible spouses may be covered up to age 70. 

If your spouse is also a WHOI employee, you cannot elect to cover them under Spouse Life insurance.  

NOTE:  Your initial eligibility is defined as your official employment date into a regular benefited position.
