Director of Research

Responsibilities

The Director of Research primarily serves the interests of the Scientific and Technical staffs. He or she is the main liaison between the research departments and the rest of the administration, and works to improve research opportunities, funding and working conditions at the Institution. The Director of Research helps to develop long-range strategies, plan the Institution budget and establish and maintain communication with Federal agencies and other institutions.

Specific internal areas of responsibility include oversight of hiring and promotion on the Scientific and Technical staffs, allocation of matching, startup and discretionary funds, distribution of space and facilities, administration of bridge support, and policies relating to these areas. The Director of Research meets regularly with the President and Director, other Vice Presidents, the Department Chairs and Administrators, and members of the Scientific and Technical staffs to discuss and act on Institution business.
